Duties of the Editor and the Editorial Board

The Editor-in-Chief of the journal «History of Education & Children’s Literature» (HECL) is responsible for deciding which of the manuscripts submitted should be published - without regard to the author’s race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, citizenship, or political ideology, and only on the base of the article's importance, originality, clarity, and its relevance to the aims and research interests of the journal. In this decision he/she shall follow the guidelines of the review’s editorial policy and may be assisted by the Editorial Office.
The Editor shall pass on each paper for evaluation to two anonymous referees who are chosen, on the base of their specific expertise and research fields in the theme, period or spatial framework addressed in the paper, within the Referees' International Committee of the journal.
The Editor and members of the editorial board should not disclose any information regarding the submitted manuscript to anyone other than the author, referees and any other editorial advisers.
The Editor sets the deadline until which the referees must complete their evaluation. The editorial deadline may be subject to change only upon agreement between the editor and referees.

Referees assist the Editor-in-Chief in making editorial decisions with his/her objective and professional evaluation and may contribute (through communications mediated by the Editorial office) to help authors improve their papers.
Each selected referee who feels unqualified to evaluate the manuscript or knows that he/she will be unable to respect the deadline set by the editor must promptly notify the editor.
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly and with supporting arguments.
The peer-review procedure is anonymous and referees are required to maintain the confidentiality of all submitted material. Referees may not show or discuss the submitted material with others, nor are they allowed to use them for their personal advantage.

The data presented in the paper on which the research work is based must be precise and accurate. The paper must present in an accurate and clear form the precise data resulting from a research work rigorously carried out according to the scientific requirements of their disciplinary field. Data and information presented must contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to verify, replicate and cite the work.
Authors must write their papers in adherence with the editorial rules (Authors' guidelines) which are available in the website of the journal «History of Education & Children’s Literature»; as a consequence, all communications and articles must respect the journal's reference style and must contain an English abstract.
Authors must ensure that their papers are original works and the result of their research, and that the work and/or words of other authors have been sistematically cited or quoted in a correct form. Authors must also provide appropriate citations of works that have importantly influenced the production of their paper.
The Editorial office of the journal «History of Education & Children’s Literature» will not accept texts that are undergoing editorial review in another journal. Authors must ensure that they have not published the essential findings of their research in any other scholarly publication. The only exception applies to translations of papers into foreign languages.
Where a paper has been written by several authors, the corresponding author ensures that all co-authors have approved the paper's final version and have agreed to its submission for publication.
Authors of papers are the only responsible for the acquisition of permissions to publish copyrighted pictorial material - an issue for which the journal declines all responsibility.
